America and Israel: Natural Friends, Natural Partners
Security assistance to Israel has economic and military benefits for Americans. U.S. assistance requires most of the funds to be spent on U.S. hardware, which, in turn, creates American jobs. Israel’s military technology is used by, shared with, and often developed jointly with America. It has been a fruitful, enlightening and security reinforcing relationship for both parties.
As a U.S. Senator, I will lead on any initiative which strengthens American Security and the relationship with our friend and ally, Israel. I will lead any initiative which promotes or enhances commerce between The U.S. and Israel. I will be a leading voice for a strong alliance between the United States and Israel because it is good policy and because it is in my DNA.
Israel’s Neighborhood - Friends – Abraham Accords
As a U.S. Senator, I will be a leader in broadening and deepening the Abraham Accords through increased commerce, tourism, cultural programs, educational exchanges as well as mutually beneficial intelligence and security arrangements. I will lead efforts to prevent a nuclear Iran. I believe American Policy should include regime change in Iran.
- Cyprus and Greece – Energy Gateway to Europe
As a U.S. Senator, I will lead support for such international economic projects as they benefit all parties. In fact, in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the pipeline is needed more than ever in order to supply Europe with clean secure natural gas in the face of potential additional Russian aggression.
Enemies – Iran, It’s Proxies, Qatar, Turkey - Iran
I support an American policy of regime change. However, as a Senator, I will support a deal with Iran ONLY IF Tehran CANNOT enrich uranium, CANNOT develop nor possess ballistic missiles, CEASES its support for Hezbollah, HAMAS and all other terrorist organizations. The U.S. Senate has an important role to play in this matter. The President is not empowered to bind the United States without Senate approval. I will lead efforts to prevent a nuclear Iran and to end its terror activities. It pains me to say that the Biden Administration’s appeasement of Iran invites war with Iran.
- Iran’s Proxies – Hezbollah and HAMAS
As Senator, I will lead support for all policies which lead to these terrorist organizations’ demise.
As a U.S. Senator I will lead efforts to remove their Major non-NATO Ally status and relocate our defense assets to truly friendly Middle Eastern countries. Further, the State Department should designate them a state sponsor of terror. Perhaps, these actions might persuade the Al Thani government be an ally of the U.S. rather than in name only.
Should Erdogan survive next year’s election, I, as a U.S. Senator, will advocate for Turkey’s exit from NATO.
- The Palestinian Arabs
As U.S. Senator, I will support agreements that Israel and the Palestinian Arabs reach on their own and will oppose outside coercion on them. I will not support a “Consulate” or “Embassy” in our Nation’s capital representing Palestinian Arabs unless and until they make peace with Israel.
I personally experienced constant anti-Semitism growing up in the South. I am keenly aware of how destructive and dangerous it is for our country and for young Jews.
As U.S. Senator, I will support efforts to expose the professors so that parents, administrators, the press, and the public know who they are. I will support programs that tell the truth about Israel and its history. I will support ending Federal funding for any academic program which promotes antisemitism and ani-Americanism.
As U.S. Senator, I will take the lead on any legislation which aids law enforcement efforts to halt anti-Semitic attacks.
- Boycott, Divest, Sanction (BDS)
As U.S. Senator I will lead efforts to rid our Country and the world of this bigoted, racist movement.
- The United Nations
As U.S. Senator, I will support any measure designed to improve the focus and efficiency of the UN so that it better serves the goals of its Charter. I will support any effort to eliminate protocols that allow the likes of North Korea to serve as Chair of the Nuclear Disarmament Commission, or Syria to chair the Human Rights Council.
American Policy in the Middle East – the Big Picture
As a U.S. Senator, I will be a leader in supporting and encouraging an American foreign policy which seeks alliances with friends to stand up to and protect from implacable foes. Peace through strength is not provocative, it is the opposite. It is the essence of deterrence.
As a mother, as someone who experienced flight from a country lost to a takeover by anti-democracy barbarians, as a lover of freedom and justice, my heart breaks for the innocent civilians being murdered by Vladimir Putin. Recent reports from Ukraine show Putin’s forces using diabolical weapons to attack civilians including bombing a maternity hospital, a children’s cancer hospital, and a theater where women and children were seeking shelter.
I escaped Cuba with my family in 1960, when we landed in Florida with nothing but the clothes on our backs. Now, millions of Ukrainians are on that journey and President Joe Biden has failed them and failed to lead during an international crisis. The free world turns to the United States for leadership, and instead, they witnessed a vacillating president unable to respond with immediate and swift actions.
After the indecisive delay in sending weapons to Ukraine, despite the incessant warnings and announcements of the impending Russian invasion of Ukraine, Biden’s refusal to end and fully ban the importation of Russian oil until March 8 (two weeks after Putin invaded Ukraine on February 22) and seize all Russian tankers in U.S. territorial waters while simultaneously opening the spigots of American oil and gas is immoral and cruel. It is immoral and cruel to enrich Russia, enabling it to continue its ruthless unjustified invasion of Ukraine. It is immoral and cruel to Americans whose jobs he killed with the cancellation of the Keystone Pipeline, in ANWR and all drilling and exploration on public land in America. It is immoral and cruel to American consumers who now must pay inflated prices for gasoline, home heating oil, propane, electricity, food, clothing and all other necessities.
While Biden’s economic destruction does not resemble what Putin has wrought in Ukraine, it is cruel nonetheless, for it is killing by a thousand cuts the American dream: the aspirations and opportunities to improve American lives and to provide for American children out of ideological zeal and indifference. Releasing oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve in order to lower gasoline prices for a day or two is irresponsible and condescending. This reserve exists to be used in times of strategic emergencies, not to regulate prices. That’s what markets do. The foolishness of this decision speaks for itself. Make America energy independent again, make America a net-exporter of energy again and watch prices drop and Putin stall.
Back to the atrocities in Ukraine. Now enabled by Biden, after the murder by the Russian invaders of children playing soccer in Mariupol, the mayor begged: “The situation is quite critical. … We are asking for help from the military and are waiting for military help. I’m sure several days we can fight, but if we receive military help we can win in this war.”
More recently, the same mayor, after Russian forces bombed a hospital, said “(i)t’s genocide that was created by the Russian army with Putin.”
The Ukrainians are fighting an existential battle for their freedom. I learned both at the U.S. Army War College and at the Foreign Policy Institute at the U.S. State Department that diplomacy is always the tip of the spear. However, President Ronald Reagan left us the blueprint for defeating evil powers: Peace through strength. A powerful military reinforces the efficacy of diplomacy, but when diplomacy fails to resolve a crisis, it is the military that must take the baton. It is past time for the Western democracies to provide the planes and armaments that Ukraine needs to defeat the Russian invaders.
If Putin is allowed to take Ukraine in an immoral, unprovoked, genocidal invasion, our world will never be the same and tyranny will have won. We will have created a nightmare not only for the peoples of Ukraine, Taiwan, Poland and the Baltic and Balkan NATO countries, but for all freedom-loving democracies.
We rely on Russians for oil and gas, we rely on China for everything from toilet paper to microchips. If we are not self-reliant, from energy to technology to medications and any other sector of the economy, then we will always be forced to choose between our values and our pocketbooks. The Biden administration cluelessly tells hurting Americans to buy an electric car if they can’t afford $4 or $5 per gallon of gas, and blames Russia for its own misguided, destructive policies. If China moves on Taiwan, what will we do? Will we destroy our own economy to stand up for our allies? A truly strong and independent country would not have to choose.
Don’t delude yourself: If we, freedom-loving, powerful democracies do not have the will to stop Putin now, eventually our children and grandchildren will pay the price of our cowardice and indifference as did young Ilya on the soccer field in Mariupol.
Leora Levy: America is under attack from out-of-touch Democrats
Independence Day might have passed, but we Americans can thank our lucky stars for living in the greatest experiment in human liberty and freedom the world has ever known. The American founding was as astonishing as it was improbable. The framers built a Constitution designed to rein in government so that citizens would enjoy maximum freedom and check its impulse to control. The farmer, cobbler, lawyer and seaman all became citizen warriors against an ancient tyranny and won. Since then, our form of government has been emulated by new democracies throughout the world. Those seeking opportunity and safety have dreamt of moving to America.
Every Fourth of July, I remember this history and feel tremendous pride in my citizenship. As a child who escaped to this country from Communist Cuba, I know how blessed I am to live in the greatest country in the world, but I also know we must fight to keep this nation great, to protect our freedom, and to stand up for our God-given rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
However, America is under attack from out-of-touch Democrats embracing a woke socialist ideology that indoctrinates our children, while spending our nation into economic ruin. As a result of the Biden administration’s policies, with Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s backing, Connecticut families cannot afford basic necessities like food and gas, while many parents frantically search for baby formula. Our families don’t feel safe in their own communities. There is general lawlessness, encouraged by the left with violence on our streets and in our communities. President Joe Biden and Sen. Blumenthal have created and encouraged an invasion, mayhem and death on our southern border, threatening our safety in Connecticut.
Is this a government accountable to the people? These crises are all self-inflicted. They were created by a Democratic Party driven by resentment, entitlement and sadly, hatred, with a goal to fundamentally change our country. The unified Democratic government has cost each American citizen dearly and clearly shown us that they have nothing but disdain for traditional American values and the Constitution. The radicals in our government have chosen to condescend, rather than represent. They view the widespread suffering brought on by their policies as little more than collateral damage.
Americans have had enough and are ready to ensure their voices are heard and remove out-of-touch Democrats at the polls this fall. The American people will never stop fighting against tyranny, and that is why I am running to be the next U.S. senator from Connecticut.
I understand the fight for freedom. My family, inspired by the Founding Fathers’ vision of America and its boundless opportunities for a better life, escaped Cuba and its tyrannical government. I am thankful to live in this country of freedom, personal responsibility and opportunity.
The America we escaped to from communist Cuba is in many ways unrecognizable today. When I go to the store and look around, seeing the bare shelves, high prices for whatever is there, and experience the government overreach in our lives, it seems more like a scene out of Venezuela or Cuba than the United States.
In some states run by Democrats, taxpayers’ American Rescue Plan money intended for COVID-19 relief was instead used to push a radical, politically motivated agenda to indoctrinate our kids with critical race theory, according to Fox News. At the same time, Democrats approve of open borders and a criminal justice system that favors criminals over law-abiding citizens. In Biden’s America, parents are the enemy. They are called domestic terrorists when they try to get involved with their children’s education. Children are told by school administrators to tell them what happens at home and that they do not have to tell their parents everything that goes on in the classroom. This is what Fidel Castro did when he took power in Cuba: He made himself the father figure in children’s minds and indoctrinated them to spy on and inform on their parents.
In what parallel universe are we living today? When did it become a norm for worried parents to be deemed domestic terrorists, yet criminals are treated like victims, despite wreaking havoc on cities across the nation?
This is why a red wave is coming that will return our country to its constitutional principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We already see the shift happening, with 1 million voters switching their registration from Democratic to Republican this year. It will even happen in states like Connecticut where Republicans, Independents and traditional Democrats are worried and upset. This might shock pundits, talking heads and the establishment — but it will not shock We the People.
America is the greatest country in history, despite what the left says. The Fourth of July is a reminder of our exceptionalism. Each Fourth of July, I count my blessings and feel great pride in my citizenship. I am running to defeat Richard Blumenthal in Connecticut because he embraces the same socialist policies my family and I fled nearly 50 years ago. He is lockstep with Biden, who prefers to bend over backward to please progressives instead of doing what is right for the American people. Despite Democrats’ best efforts to impose socialism, indoctrinate our kids and open our borders, they cannot hide from the repercussions of their actions.
The Fourth of July is a reminder to all that government works for its people, not the other way around. Americans in Connecticut and across the nation will send a direct message this November, declaring that America is a Constitutional Republic, that we live and celebrate our constitutional rights every day and that socialism has no place in the greatest nation on Earth.
I hope you and your family had a great Independence Day. God Bless Connecticut, and God Bless America.
This month, both of Connecticut’s senators voted along party lines for a $740 billion radical, socialist, green-dream-tax-and-spending spree that experts say will not do anything to reduce inflation, nor have any appreciable effect on the climate this century, despite Richard Blumenthal’s and Joe Biden’s promises.
They even named it a lie — the Inflation Reduction Act — in order to gaslight Americans into thinking it is something that it is not.
The reality is that it is another way for Biden and Blumenthal to tax middle-class American families, to the tune of $10.6 billion in new taxes, and hire 87,000 IRS agents who will target Americans earning less than $75,000 a year and small-business owners, too. Just for perspective, the UConn football stadium holds just under 40,000 people. That sure is a lot of new IRS agents. Why?
This is what happens when you have been a politician for 37 years. You think the solution to $5 a gallon gas, empty shelves and hiring shortages is taxing Americans, but hiring agents to claw away more tax dollars in order to justify more government spending will only inject more money into an inflationary economy during a recession. This is the opposite of what the American economy and American families need to reverse the economic disaster and pain being experienced today.
Unfortunately for Blumenthal, he has hitched his wagon to one of the least successful presidents in history. Biden’s name might not be on the ballot this November, but his failed policies are. This is one of those elections where the imposed solutions couldn’t be more mistaken nor dangerous. Do you want another six years of Biden policies via Blumenthal?
I certainly do not. My family escaped Communist Cuba, arriving here with only the clothes we were wearing. I understand Communism and its characteristic government control that crushes the human spirit, crushes initiative and creativity, resulting in poverty for most except for an elite few. Communism has failed wherever it has been tried. This election is about standing up for our freedom, fighting for what we believe, improving people’s lives by bringing real change to Washington.
I am not going to allow Connecticut to forget Blumenthal’s role in how we got here.
From Hartford to Tolland to Stamford, there are countless families worried about how they are going to feed their families, pay the mortgage and heat their homes this winter. Yet out-of-touch Blumenthal voted along party lines to increase taxes on the middle class under the guise of reducing inflation. In fact, Connecticut taxes are tied to federal tax rates so he also effectively decreased the amount of income for Connecticut families.
Democrats across the country are kowtowing to the progressive left rather than listening to the American people. Even worse, they are trying to distract us from the real issues, attacking the venerable Supreme Court and our Constitution in order to distract from the 13.1% rise in food prices and the empty shelves that panicked parents are finding as they frantically search for baby formula.
As I travel Connecticut, I often hear people wondering if Blumenthal can be beaten. After all, he has been a fixture in Connecticut office forever. Here’s what I say: Even before he voted to raise taxes on the middle class with the lie that is the Inflation Reduction Act, Blumenthal’s polling had been well under 50%, a sign that his popularity is not what it once was. We do not have to live this way. We really can have better leadership in Washington.
He is already running scared, trying to persuade voters with television ads three months before the election. When reality comes knocking, it is the career politicians, like Biden and Blumenthal, who will do anything to keep their power.
This election is different. We the people are no longer going to stand idly by and allow these politicians to continue this madness.
After 37 years, Blumenthal thinks he is indispensable and that voters will continue to go along with the status quo. However, this year will be different.
American families, hardworking taxpayers and small business owners are paying the price for his inept, ideologically driven leadership. Connecticut families want new, strong leadership from their elected officials. I am a mother, a wife, a businesswoman and a political outsider who has lived an American Dream, not a career politician. In me, they will have a star pitcher on the mound every day fighting for them in the Senate, not a relief pitcher.
Voters have a clear choice on the direction of our country: continue down the path of insider status quo with skyrocketing inflation, a broken supply chain, crime on our streets, an invasion at our border, and the indoctrination of our children, or choose a principled fighter who will take on the career politicians and always put Connecticut families first.
In November, we can end the Blumenthal-blight in Washington and send a message to all the career politicians who have failed us time and again.
