Elizabeth “LIZ” Johnson has been a Bulloch County resident for the past 26 years. Married to a retired law enforcement officer, Johnson will celebrate the 25th anniversary in marriage in 2022. Together they have seven adult children, seventeen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Liz Johnson worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years. During her professional career, Liz worked diligently to enhance the lives of many by providing aid and solutions to people’s needs, concerns before retiring.
As a proven leader in her community, Liz has served as an elected officer, appointed board member and committee chair of various organizations. Such organizations include Statesboro Regional Library Board, C.A.S.A. Board (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), Statesboro Noon Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity, and a school board zoning task force just to name a few.

As a political leader, Liz has served at the county, district, and state committee level of the Democratic Party of Georgia for over 20 years. In 2012, after being elected by her state committee peers, Liz also served as one of the six Democratic National Committee members representing the state of Georgia. In 2014, Liz Johnson’s bid for Georgia Insurance Commissioner made her among the few women of color to gain a major party nomination for a statewide executive office. That November, Liz received over 1 million votes statewide, giving Liz Johnson a well-recognized name in Georgia politics.
In 2020, after winning the Democratic Primary with 84% of the votes, Liz Johnson then came within striking distance of winning the U.S. House of Representatives seat in Georgia's 12th Congressional District.
