Patty Murray Announces Re-election Campaign to Keep Fighting for Washington State
Senator Murray, a former preschool teacher, famously entered the political arena after fighting to save a preschool program on the chopping block, when a state legislator told her she was, “Just a mom in tennis shoes… You can’t make a difference.” From that moment, Patty Murray mobilized more than 13,000 parents to eventually save that preschool program from budget cuts. Murray went on to serve as a school board member and state senator before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1992. She has been fighting for Washington state’s workers, families, and communities ever since.
