When policies so deeply hurt the people, that’s when we must stand for each other.

Both Duke Aiona and Jr. Tupaʻi entered this race to stand up, and call out, government actions that were obviously not in line with the best interests of our local people.

What’s not commonly known is that, during the pandemic, emergency proclamations targeted and discriminated against our local sector. These proclamations gave big box retail permission to stay open, while forcing shutdowns on our small mom and pop shops - even though they both provided the same kinds of services.

We all saw what this did: the permanent closure of so many small businesses, and the hurt that came with it for so many families.

If you are pro-small business and pro-local economy, you do not prioritize outside interests first, especially in a time of crisis.

We need this value so deeply rooted in our government, of local businesses and people first, before anything else. This is the guiding principle that will lead us to a strong local economy.
