Tombo which translates to "Dragonfly" sticks in Japanese are a very simple and clever tools for measuring the depth and width of pottery.  Some may have the additional benefit of measuring the angles of sides but I've yet to figure out how to measure that.  

At my studio in the city, we have calipers which we use to measure the width of the opening of the bowl (diameter and depth)of bowls and plates.  You can't set it  and make it stay put like my new homemade Tombo tools.  I prefer this new method.  Pretty simple device right?
