Official data show that China's population started falling in 2022 for the first time in six decades, a historic turn for the world's second-largest economy, which fuelled a demographic crisis for the country.
China's National Statistics Bureau figure released on Tuesday, January 17, claimed that China had 1.41 billion people at the end of 2022. The official data is 850,000 fewer than at the end of 2021.
